November 2009 - Still Crazy After All These Years

Fifteen years ago, interLink Hawaii (the first Internet Service Provider on the Big Island) signed up its first customer. I had just finished putting together the network and server cluster and it was quite an exciting experience - the hard drive on my main server started accessing like mad the moment I connected the main Internet backbone to our network, and it never stopped. Connecting people to that hurricane of information, data, and noise -- what a business to be in!

Now I'm 2 years into a new business whose purpose is also connecting people. When I founded interLink, I came up with the motto "World Peace Through Excellent Communication". I was roundly criticized for that, and for putting it on my web site and my checks and stationery, because it seemed "unprofessional" and "immature".

Well, heck, I've been criticized for worse things by better people. (I recently took a shot for "working out of the back of his truck". Actually I work out of the SIDE of my truck.)

With Red Road Telecom I hope to make connections not only between people and data, but also between people and each other, and not just by phone or email. Many of you remember the interLink Hawaii days and decided to trust me with your telecom business because of my history with you. That is a wonderful responsibility for which I continue to be immensely grateful.

In the coming months Red Road Telecom will be providing opportunities for people on the Big Island with similar interests and concerns to communicate together, plan together, and act as a community together using the technology that we are creating and managing. Let your imagination spin a little and let me know what you'd like to see happen, using Red Road Telecom as a vehicle (side or back, either way).

Once again I thank you, Judy thanks you, and Muki thanks you for the cat food. (Actually she eats more buffalo than I do!)
